EFC Memorial Park Groundbreaking Ceremony
(Video in Mandarin)
On May 11 the EFC congregation held a groundbreaking prayer ceremony at the Granite Terrace area of Rose Hills. Phase one of the cemetery planning followed the singing, Bible reading, sharing, and prayers from the congregation. The memorial park will have 121 in-ground burial lots, 39 urn burial double capacity lots, and 674 double capacity urn memorial wall niches.
EFC has been in the States for over 40 years. In the past 30 or so years, many members of the congregation were buried in various memorial parks around Rose Hills, causing some inconveniences when exploring burial grounds, not to mention the fact that several were in non-Christian cemeteries. To fulfill the hopes of fellow Christians in Los Angeles, EFC established a Christian-only memorial park.
The property was found and purchased by the EFC Foundation. From chief executive Elder Joseph Chen: The foundation’s mission is not limited to outward missions, but also within to care for the body, mind, and soul of the elderly, and fulfill their needs in their final chapters in life. Also, we hope the establishment of a memorial park will benefit positively to EFC’s ministries. Chairman Elder Samuel Huang expressed during his offering prayer that the funds raised for this project will go to four main uses:
- Missions - Glorify God’s name
- Education - Grow God’s servants
- Elderly Care - Love and care for God’s children of age
- Relief - Assist victims of natural disasters
The selected location for the memorial park is quite beautiful. Although set in the back of the hills, it oversees the pristine lake nearby, yet offers a fabulous panoramic view of Greater Los Angeles. There is peace in its solemness, much like a worldly paradise. Elder Chen has said, because EFC is a non-profit organization therefore the premise of the memorial park is not to make money, but to offer special assistance to congregation members in need with a significant discount. The building of the memorial park is under the supervision of the park engineering committee. EFC and Rose Hills have also reached a partnership agreement to offer a 10% discount on floral arrangements. ( May 13, 2011 22:25:10 PDT, Internation Daily News )
